Poaching of rhinos
has reduced in Assam during 2015 as compared to 2014, 19 poaching cases was
recorded during 2015 compared to 31 in 2014 and most of these recorded in and
around Kaziranga NP which records the highest rhino population of Greater One
Horned in the world (2401 as per 2014 census).
No rhino poaching
took place in Manas during 2015 which is a positive sign for the newly
introduced rhino population there. In addition even though there were regular
poaching pressure in Pobitora WLS, the rhino population was secured against
poaching attempts during 2015.
