Collard falconet-Small Prey Bird of Manas



This is a small and beautiful 'Indian hwak' found in the entire Manas Landscape (Transboundary India and Bhutan) areas. This is a small bird of prey in the Falconidae family.

They have shirk like in shape, mainly pied and having bold white supercilia and collar, with the relatively heavy double toothed bill. It has shortish wing, a medium length tail, strong half feathered large and powerful feet. 

It perches on top or edges of tree or bush and often the dead tree. Sometimes it was observed to present in cultivable lands with sparsely distributed tall or dead trees. Habitat shrinkage may decrease its population in Manas Landscape but globally it is declared as least concern species by IUCN
