An Interview with a Forest Guard On Occasion of World Ranger Day

I have work with this guy from 2007 to 2013 as a field ranger at Manas National Park. He is very dedicated and hard worker field staff. He treats each rhino as his own family member. At present, he is posted outside the Manas NP. On occasion, on this auspicious day, I have posted his organic view for your kind view and comments.

During my decade of experiences, I have noticed that our field rangers in India working in very difficult conditions with limited facilities. Many of them lay their lives for the wildlife conservation. In Manas, several frontline staff died during the period from 1989 to 2000 ethnic violence period. However, our brave field soldiers showing their patriotism and love for wildlife by overcoming their sea of obstacles.

Now things are changing, forest field guards/ rangers are no longer a person to know only forest language but he has to learn rapid developed modern technological knowledge very quickly. A forest ranger also needs training on the social angle to involve fringe community towards conservation. So regular motivation, capacity development may be possible to upgrade present conditions of field rangers of India as well as Assam.

With a great expectation and hope, I wish our field rangers day will be changing very soon for protection of our biodiversity.

My salute to all field rangers of Forest On the occasion of World Ranger Day,2018.
