Rhino-2 (Iragdao) |
This was a male sub-adult rhino translocated to Manas National Park from Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary on the 12th April 2008 under the program of Indian Rhino Vision-2020. It was well adapted in the new homeland of Manas NP and created a history. This rhino was stray outside from the park and reached 100 km from the park boundary from 1st-14th September 2008. Manas Team was able to capture after 15 days of continuous follow-up. It was a major stray rhino capture incident in the conservation history of the World. After that incident, Rhino never tried to stray outside and settled perfectly. He became a dominant male after killing of Rhino-1. Rhino-2 was the father of all newborn calves born in Manas NP. I have spent many beautiful moments with this majestic animal.
On 13th January 2013, we lost this beautiful animal. Rhino-2 was named as Iragdao (means victory) by the Bansbari range rhino monitoring team of Manas National Park.
Today is your first death anniversary! It is a very heartbreaking incident for us to remember you. The killing of Rhino-2 might be greatly lost for rhino conservation History for Manas and the entire IRV-2020 program. May your soul find a place in heaven!!
