On occasion of World Ranger Day I drop few lines for the front line staffs who gave their life for protection of Manas NP.
Manas National
Park was subjected to bear the brunt of ethnic
Bodo uprising from early nineties and upto 2003. During the period entire
management system was thrown out of gear. The lawlessness situation prevailing
at that time provided best opportunity for miscreants to take toll on the Park
infrastructure and wildlife. Almost all the camps were abandoned, arms looted,
bridges were burned down and wild animals as well as domestic elephants were
killed. Good number of frontline staff lost their lives. Hapless wild animals
were left prone at the mercy of poacher and thus Manas saw the annihilation of
entire population of Great Indian One Horned Rhinoceros in its habitat.
During this period more than 20 front line staff lay their life for sake of Manas. On occasion of World Ranger Day I wish my tearful gratitude for all of them.
