#WorldWetlandsDay2023
Wetlands are crucial to the future of the planet. Wetlands are ecosystems that are saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally, and have unique hydrophytic (water-loving) vegetation adapted to these conditions.
Wetlands play important roles in water storage, water purification, flood control, carbon sequestration, and as habitats for numerous plant and animal species. Types of wetlands include marshes, swamps, and bogs, among others.
Wetlands are under threat from human activities such as urbanization, agriculture, and drainage, leading to the loss of wetland area and degradation of wetland function.
